1st baking experience
A invited me to bake portugese tart today. wow, first i have forgotten most of the class even though coincidentally a few days ago, i found the recipe somewhere between the piles of papers on my PC desk. Well, i had A's good baking sense and experience so between the 2 of us, we should make it right. On the way i picked up a bottle of white vinegar,,,no, it was not meant to be used for cooking lunch. Instead, it was meant to be used to wipe down the new aluminium cup trays which we were going to use to bake the tarts in. A already had prepared the dough incl the cream base for the portugese egg tart. So my role in this baking was really minimal...all i had to do was to take the portions for the egg tart crust and line the baking cups just right..base not too thin since it means the egg filling will spill through the cracks. Sides not too thick becos it means uneven baking. Sounds simple right? No it is not. Took at least 2 tries before i got the hang of it. Even then A had to do the finishing touch to make sure it was correct. What to do lah..amateur plus the fact that i have not baked since school days. Anway, we managed to fill up 21 of the cups and then it was time to fill up the custard filling. Once done, the tarts was sent in to bake.
End result, the pastry didnt look as flaky as the ones done by Linda during baking class. However when we tilted the cup upside down and put it in the little paper cups, it looked ok. Pastry taste was still not flaky some of the corners a bit biscuity. Well, not to bad at the first trial. We will do better. Will post the picture later since i have to make sure when i sync the photos, my phone wont hang again..like it did the last time.
