Food binge in Penang

i took this pic after the first mouthful as i remembered Fairuz request to have Penang laksa from Penang when i asked him what he wanted. Too bad, i already had mixed up the hei goh(thick gooey dark prawn paste). This was by no means the only indulgence i had. Get round to the story of this bowl of Penang laksa in a minute. Once we left our bags in Ah Ling's house, off we went to the hawker centre nearby where i had to fulfill my desire for curry mee. I polished off everything in that bowl. Penang curry mee is so unique, you get served a bowl of whitish looking broth in which there are prawns, tau pok, see ham/cockles, slices of pig's blood and then the curry paste in the spoon. You mix everything up and viola, you get the red curry soup. So so delicious. You salivating yet? Then took some mouthfuls of the popiah. Why am i suddenly "lusting"for the Penang hawker food? Because the last trip, i had to watch what i eat due to my foot. So now its "payback time"...so happy i cld do it. After that, we went to pay our respects to Elizabeth's mum. Well the flight was not exactly great because the couple next to me who probably was on their first flight together had to choose to squeeze next to me when there were so many empty seats at the back. Sigh...when you are in love!! So we decided to go and do 90 min of foot relexology..3 of us in a room. Bliss when your worries are being massaged after a satisfying meal. After that, i wanted to eat the chu chap chook/mixed pork parts congee. So good again. I cldnt manage a bowl on my own, so i shared with Grace. Then we went hunting for the apong with the banana/corn filling, but the guy didnt open stall. And a turn to the junction at Tanjong Tokong to eat the Penang laksa plus the kuih talam. We found a good parking lot, walked round the corner, and i cld smell the lovely char kway teow/fried flat noodles. We walked right to the stall, the lady says "boh liao", sorry mate, we sold out. What a disappointment. Not giving up, we got into the car and then went to Padang to eat pasembor, something like the Indian rojak, except that in Penang, you get bits of jelly fish, etc. That we got to eat. Then home to hit the shower, a change of clothes and dinner. This time, we decided to eat "ching ching"for Ah Chan's diet sake. It was the Sawara restaurant, in which we had the "horse got fish"/ma yau yu or the local mackerel. It was a hotpot Japanese style served with beehoon. We had that plus a side plate of the fried fish gueey wrapped in beancurd skin. So crispy. The hotpot soup was sweet with the fish meat not overcooked. After that, we adjourned to Gurney Drive to meet Eddie & Debbie. So i thought that was going to be the end of eating. No way, siree. Elizabeth went to look for the fried chicken skin stall and came back with it. I have never tried it. It was very crispy and looked like fried keropok. That got me thirsty so i had to get a drink. Then rojak came. I was already bursting at the seams, so i took bits of pineapple in the rojak to help with my digestion. After a browsing through of some of the shops in Gurney Plaza, we got home. On the way though, we stopped at a stall to ta pau the economy fried meehoon, which comes with the fried beancurd skins. Not available in KL lah. And that stall was suppose to be one of the best at night. Got home, changed and was asked to eat again. All i cld manage was two chopstick servings and gave up. By that time, i had to walk around the house, holding my tummy. Heelllp. They say on a full tummy its so good to sleep. Well, i dozed off quickly but the over full tummy was not good. I woke up early morning, then went back to sleep. So it was restless slumber, contributed by my over binge. Next morning, a cup of cleansing veggie juice. That was good. Then Ah Ling went to ta pau the Hokkein mee or prawn mee. That was delicious. I didnt like the soya drink which she made for me, as soya bean is not one of my favorite drinks. Then a shower, and when Grace got home, we went to go and look for the apong man/Ah Guan's stall. He was already busy cooking up 20 pieces for a customer's order who wanted to take it back to Singapore. Plus other orders already in queue. We "begged"him to sell us 2 pieces first, and he had to put his hands together to beg us not to push him further. Poor man, dealing with 4 ladies at one go. So we had to come back and pick it up. Next stop, the Penang biscuit shop..it was 2pm and all sold out. Was told to come back in 45 minutes. By that time, we decided enough and tried to go to the first Penang laksa shop at Tanjong Tokong. No luck again, they are off on monday. So we had to go to Pulau Tikus to eat at the middle shop. You know when you crave for something and you have to go through so much trouble to get to eat one bowl of it, what do you do. Its ATTACK time!! Who cares. Thats why i dug in without thinking of taking the snap shot for Fairuz. We also ordered a plate of char kway teow, which was very good. After yesterday's over binging, the tummy was bloated. But still room cld be made for the apong. So despite the full tummy, i wolfed down 2 slices. Then Ah Ling says we must eat the tee kee/ deep fried sweet sticky rice sandwiched between 2 slices of yam. It was so crispy, don't feel the oily taste at all. Then we went to Queensbay mall, in which there is a restaurant which serves food in miniature toilet bowls, incl seating on a toilet set chair (featured in today's Star's newspaper). Wld i ever try the restaurant? No way, even though they may serve the most delicious food items. How can you treat food without respect? There are so many people who wld have to fight tooth and nails for a meal with others, and yet, you have to pay to have this kind of stupid thrill? Its absolutely disgusting and stupid! We got ourselves some fruit drinks at the basement floor level...i ordered the super digester. Ya, i needed that papaya and watermelon fix to help me. Now why didnt i take the other food pics? Simply because i was so busy attacking the food and eating it. No time for anything else except to sink my teeth into those food i have been craving for. See what happens when you and your favorite foods have parted ways for too long. If you think we wld have not eaten anything after the afternoon's eating/snacking, well, wrong. We stopped at Sakae Sushi becos Ah Ling loved the teriyaki mushrooms so much. All i cld manage was half slice of the mushroom and lots of the ocha. Time to go back to Ah Ling's house, pack and shower. The a walk to the back of her house to have dinner with everyone. Home style cooking..a mix of tai pai tong with it. Had to eat becos our flight was going to be late and there is nothing to eat at Penang airport, esp in the departure lounge. Food binge had finally ended. Finally touch down and a drive home. By the time, i hit the sack, it was close to 1am.
